Many schools and districts are simplifying the process of logging in to their growing array of technology tools by making most or all of their online tools available through a single network login. (This is sometimes referred to as LDAP Access.) If your school or organization offers this process for logging into your netTrekker account, it means that you need to remember one username and password to access both your school’s network and netTrekker.
When You Access netTrekker At School
To login to netTrekker using your network authentication when you are at school, you will login to a school computer, then click on the netTrekker icon or link provided. Your school or organization has an unique URL (internet address) for netTrekker, which will begin “http://school.nettrekker.com/ntw/” and end with your school’s unique identifier. The “ntw” lets you know that you are accessing netTrekker through your school’s network. When you are at school, you won’t need to enter that address in the browser address box because the link or icon you click will automatically enter it for you.
When You Access netTrekker Away From School
To log in to netTrekker using your network authentication when you are not at school, you will need to enter your school’s or organization’s unique URL (internet address) for netTrekker, which will begin “http://school.nettrekker.com/ntw/” and end with your school’s unique identifier. The “ntw” lets you know that you are accessing netTrekker through your school’s network. If you do not know what this address is, please contact your school’s netTrekker administrator.
Logging In
Once you have accessed netTrekker through your school’s network, you can now log in using your school network username and password.
Enter your school network username and password, then click .
The first time you log in using this procedure (logging in with your school network username and password), you will receive this prompt:
Your school or organization will be identified, and you will have the option of selecting your role as Student or Teacher. “Student” is the default.
If you are a student, simply click . You will be presented with the My Profile screen, which allows you to edit your first/last names and to connect your network account to any existing netTrekker account you may have.
If you are a teacher, you will want to change your role accordingly. You will need your school’s or organization’s teacher code, which should be provided by your netTrekker administrator.
As a teacher, you will then be presented with the My Profile screen, so that you can edit your name or make other appropriate changes.
You will only need to go through this process once. After the first time you login to netTrekker through your network username and password, you will enter netTrekker immediately when you log in.
Connecting Existing Accounts to Network Account
When the My Profile screen is displayed, you will have the opportunity to connect a pre-existing netTrekker account to your network account. Both students and teachers have this option.
Using this screen, you can connect your pre-existing netTrekker username and password to your school network username and password. This way, if you have already created folders and/or saved searches in My Portfolio under your netTrekker username, you can access them when logging in using your school network username. Simply follow the prompts in the expanded screen to make this connection. The best course of action is to connect your school network username and your netTrekker username the first time you login to netTrekker through your school network. That way, you will not create My Portfolio content under two different usernames.
WARNING! DO NOT CONNECT if you have created a set of folders and/or saved searches using a netTrekker username AND another set of folders and/or saved searches using a school network username and want to retain both portfolios. Each unique username has a unique My Portfolio set and two My Portfolio sets cannot be merged. If you click
, you will retain the My Portfolio set you created under your netTrekker username, but you will lose any My Portfolio sets you created under your school network username.
If you choose not to connect your network and netTrekker logins when you have the first opportunity, you may choose to do so at any later time. To do this, go to My Profile and click .
When you use My Profile to connect accounts, the system will log you out so the change can take effect. When you log back in, your network username and password will be connected to the netTrekker account to which you connected.
