Standards Results

The Standards feature is available only to those netTrekker users who are registered as teachers and/or admins.

netTrekker partners with Academic Benchmarks, a market-leading company that specializes in academic standards resource alignment. Working together, we have developed a comprehensive, state of the art alignment process that utilizes both human review and sophisticated proprietary automated techniques, allowing us to deliver standards-correlated resources that support state standards to the benchmark/learning outcome level.

netTrekker provides easy access to Standards for all states, as well as for the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The state in which your school organization exists becomes your default state when you register as a netTrekker teacher or administrator. You can change your default standards by clicking on My Preferences within the user menu (drop-down menu by your name on the home page), or by clicking on the radio button next to a state/national set of standards when you access the Standards section. You can even change the state/national set of standards you view after you receive a set of standards results by clicking on the arrow next to the state name in your result set.

You can access your Standards from several points throughout netTrekker.

  1. Tools Tab > Standards

    A. Drilling Down through Standard via the Tools Tab
    B. Search Standards with Standards Keywords via the Tools Tab

  2. Search Tab > Standards Radio Button

  3. Search Tab > Keyword or Phrase > Standards Radio Button

1. Tools Tab > Standards

A. Drilling Down through Standards via the Tools Tab

If you want a thorough view of a particular standards document, your best option is to drill down through that document. You will be able to see everything within a document and still receive a list of aligned resources at the end of the process. Follow these steps:

  1. Click Tools > Standards
  2. Choose a Standards document.
  3. Choose a Subject.
  4. Drill down through that subject, choosing the path that is of most interest to you, until you get to the deepest level of the standard. Different documents label the deepest level with different names. You might find labels such as Objective, Indicator, Element, Benchmark, or some other label at the deepest level.
  5. Click on a topic in the provided list of Standards Aligned Content to find resources to support teaching of or learning the chosen standard.

Note: Some standards documents include items labeled “Example” beneath the deepest level of a standard. Resources have been aligned to the deepest level, not to the example.

B. Search Standards With Standards Keyword via the Tools Tab

If you know a concept you want to teach and want to find the specific standard or standards that address that concept quickly, use Browse > Tools > Standards to perform a keyword search within your standards. Let’s say your concept is the water cycle. Follow these steps to find the precise language of your standard, as well as the list of Standards Aligned Content to find resources to support teaching of or learning the chosen standard.

  1. Choose Tools > Standards
  2. Enter a keyword in the Standards keyword box.
  3. Choose your standard.
Note: The list of standards you receive will be limited to those which are available for your academic level. If you wish to see more, you can click on a radio button for a different academic level, presented at the left of the screen.
  4. Click on a topic in the provided list of Standards Aligned Content to find resources to support teaching of or learning the chosen standard.

You can also access your standards through the Search function. The results of this type of search are identical to the results you receive when you use Method B above, but the beginning point is different.

  1. Choose Search, then click within the keyword search box, which pops open a series of radio buttons.
  2. Choose Standards.
  3. Enter as a keyword a term or concept that would appear in your Standards documents.
  4. Choose your standard.
Note: The list of standards you receive will be limited to those which are available for your academic level. If you wish to see more, you can click on a radio button for a different academic level, presented at the left of the screen.
  5. Click on a topic in the provided list of Standards Aligned Content to find resources to support teaching or learning of the chosen standard.

3. Accessing Standards through the Search Tab > Keyword or Phrase > Standards Radio Button

The final method for accessing a Standards result is to perform a keyword search first, then click the Standards button above the Keyword Search box. The end point of this method will be the same as the others. An advantage of this method is that you may have already identified resources you want to use in your teaching and simply want to check the language of your standards to verify that you’re addressing the appropriate skills with your chosen resources.

  1. Perform a keyword search.
  2. Click within the keyword search box, which pops open a series of radio buttons, select Standards.
  3. Click the Search icon.

If you choose, you may save a standard, or a standard with a list of aligned content to your portfolio by clicking at the appropriate point of your drill down or search.

Because you will be accessing the exact language of the standards document from which you teach, you can, if you choose, copy the text of a standard directly into your lesson plans.
